Crossville mine is an underground thermal coal mine that had an original target production rate of 600,000 clean tons per year. It is wholly owned by Hillsborough Resources and is located near
Crossville, Tennessee, U.S.A. The property was acquired in 2005 and was part of Hillsborough's growth strategy into the US market.
The mine commenced underground commercial production in September 2005, serving the local power utility and industrial markets. However, in August 2006, Hillsborough announced that after low recovery yields and based on a recently completed tightly spaced operational drill program, it would not be practical to access the coal reserves targeted for room and pillar mining from the current mains drive. It was accordingly decided to retreat from the existing mains.
The Crossville mine for accounting purposes is now reported as a discontinued operation classified as held for sale. An active program has been initiated to locate a buyer for the Crossville mine.
Crossville produced medium volatile compliance coal with a calorific value of 6950 Kcal/kg (12,500 Btu/lb) on an as received basis. For detailed specifications, please contact the
